Featuring Reginald Espiritu as conductor, music arranger and composer as well as special performances by Quest, Julianne and Rivermaya. The celebrated Manila Symphony Orchestra, musicians from the Lasallian Youth Orchestra (LYO) and the CYO Unit 26 Chorale will perform in joint concert with the special performers under the direction of Reginald Espiritu. The concert will also feature select compositions by Paulina Siapuatco and CORPS Foundation of the Philippine National Police.

Dubbed by their fans as “Ang Banda ng Bayan” (The Peoples Band), the current line-up composed of Jayson Fernandez, Mike Elgar, Japs Sergio and Mark Escueta are very proud of their new album  which contains 10 all-original songs.  According to guitarist Mike Elgar “overall, this is our heaviest-sounding album pero dahil Rivermaya album siya,siyempre masaya pa rin”. “This album is full of new stories and lessons for everyone and some are inspired by stuff we’ve had to go through these past few years. Ito ang Rivermaya ngayon” adds founding-member and drummer Mark Escueta.

The band stormed onto the local music scene in 1994 with a barrage of multi-platinum selling albums and hit songs that have been engraved in the hearts of millions. In the 90s, they were rivaled only by the legendary Eraserheads. Escueta relates “Ang saya nung panahon na yon! Salit-salit yung ‘Maya at ‘Heads  sa #1 and #2 spot sa mga countdown sa radyo for ilang years. Siyempre dati hindi ko masyado inaamin na fan ako nila pero ngayon inaamin ko na, haha! Ngayon nakakatuwa din kasi, ang dami nang pinagdaanan ng banda pero relevant parin yung mga kanta. Sa 2010 magce-celebrate  tayo 16 years of relevance which is much more important than just album sales. Were also celebrating a wonderful 16-year relationship with our fans who have never let us down kahit na may changes in line-up at kahit na sinubukan kaming siraan ng dati naming manager, nandiyan lang sila sa tabi namin at wala kaming masabi sa kanila kundi “salamat”. Para sa amin, kaya kami “banda ng bayan” kasi kasama namin sila, kabanda namin sila”.

Rivermaya’s relevance through the years is evidenced by numerous songs that have had nationwide and regional impact.  Their songs are fixtures in the realm of movie themes, commercials, TV shows, event anthems, and even in the smaller but no less important confines of Universities, Schools and Classrooms where some Rivermaya songs are actually used as discussion topics by Filipino teachers and professors. “Yung Liwanag (Sa Dilim) madalas gamiting graduation song ng mga high schools… minsan naman yung Awit (Ng Kabataan). Astig, nakakatuwa” says bassist Japs Sergio.  Songs that have been used as movie themes include: “Kung Ayaw Mo Huwag Mo” in 1998 (Maricel Soriano, William Martinez, Jolina Magdangal & Marvin Agustin); “Hinahanap-hanap Kita” in 1999 (Aga Mulach, Giselle Toengi) and “Umaaraw, Umuulan” in 2006 (Ryan Agoncillo, Herbert Bautista).  Past commercials with Rivermaya songs include ads for: Sony, Globe Telecom, Greenwich, Beer Na Beer & San Miguel Beer.  The band is currently endorsing, Ray-Ban shades, Nike footwear, The Zen Institute and #1 music store JB Music.  They are also the first Filipino band chosen to endorse a Singaporean Telco.

Through the years, ‘Maya songs have crossed geographical borders and well as the boundaries of age and genre. The song “Hinahanap-hanap Kita” has also been covered by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velazquez, and more recently it was used as the theme song for 2009 GMA soap-opera “Adik Sa’yo” with new arrangements by Dennis Trillo and Jolina Magdangal respectively. It is currently the soundtrack of the Mang Inasal ad campaign. Veteran R&B singer Luke Mejares has his own version of the 1995 hit “214” and actress/signer Yasmin Kurdi  released her rendition of “Kisapmata” as part of her 2^nd album.  Singers Danita Paner and Gian Magdangal have their own versions of the classic ‘Maya hit “Himala”.

Rivermaya achieved a significant degree of success and recognition in the Asian region with the songs like “You’ll Be Safe Here”, “Bali Song” and “Sleep”, paving the way for regional breakthroughs of other Filipino bands.  “You’ll Be Safe Here”, originally the theme song of an ABS-CBN 2005 teleserye called “Spirits”, was also used by Star World in a special feature in 2007. They have represented the country several times around the region in events such as the Pattaya Music Festival in Thailand (2005, 2006) and Fat Festival in Thailand (2006), Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore (2006),  the MTV Asia Awards in Thailand (winning Favorite Group in 2005 and 2006), MTV Music Summit in Indonesia (2006), the Asian TV Awards in Singapore (2006), Asian Idol in Indonesia (2007), the Asia Song Festival in Korea (2008), the New Year Countdown in Singapore (2008-2009), and UOX Play in Malaysia (2009). Rivermaya is also the first Filipino band given the honor of being invited to perform at the 2009 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix where they received praises from an international audience.

The world of Philippine sports has also been home to Rivermaya hits. “Alab Ng Puso (Tagumpay)” is a staple during boxing matches and PBA games, including the Manny Pacquiao fight in Taguig against Fahsan a few years back. In 2005, an estimated crowd of 250,000 people were at the Quirino Grandstand for the opening of the 2005 South East Asian Games, and Rivermaya teamed-up with lyricist Russel Molina to compose the main theme song entitled “Posible”. They performed the song live alongside the San Miguel Orchestra led by none other than Mr. Ryan Cayabyab. Through satellite TV, the event was witnessed by millions throughout Asia.

“Posible”, one of the bands’ most compelling songs, urges the Filipino to move forward and fight in the face of trials because with the blood of heroes flowing through our veins, all things are possible. In 2010, “Posible” has been hand-picked by presidential candidate Gibo Teodoro who is a self-confessed fan of the group.  “Bilib daw si Gibo sa talento ng Rivermaya at nasa kantang naming Posible ang mensahe ni Gibo para sa taong bayan. Basta Pilipino, kahit ano pang pagsubok ang dumating. Lahat daw posible at siyempre agree kami don!” says 3^rd generation vocalist Jayson Fernandez.  When asked if any of the Rivermaya members see this as a stepping-stone into the world of politics, they unanimously answered “basta para sa bayan, Posible!”.  Drummer Mark Escueta quickly adds: “Pero seriously, inspite of a few bumps along the road, 2009 was a great year for us. Apart from our local sked, nakatugtog kami sa Malaysia at 4 times sa Singapore.  Formula 1 Grand Prix pa yung isa! Dahil siguro tuloy-tuloy kami magtrabaho, nagulat nalang kami na 16 years na pala ang grupo. Itong tour na pinaplano namin ay para magpasalamat sa lahat ng sumuporta sa amin mula 1994 hanggang ngayon. May regalo kaming bagong album at masayang concert tour na kasama si Jolina at marami pang sorpresa. Abangan nalang nila ang Rivermaya sa lugar nila”.

To Whom It May Concern:

Last September 2009, our former-agent/manager Lizza G. Nakpil initiated a malicious Internet, Radio, TV & Print campaign to intentionally misrepresent to producers, sponsors, event organizers, members of the media, Rivermaya’s fans, music fans and the general public into believing that she was declared by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines as the “certified registered owner” of the mark “Rivermaya”. She has also been harassing producers (here and abroad), sponsors, our record label Warner Music Philippines and members of the media with threats of legal action for working with the band Rivermaya without her authority. Ms. Nakpil’s claim of being the registered owner of the mark “Rivermaya” is FALSE and her campaign of harassment has caused GREAT and IRREPARABLE damage to Rivermaya’s career. Last October 14, 2009, upon request of our lawyers, the IPO issued a Certification that clearly proves that Lizza G. Nakpil is NOT the registered owner of Rivermaya.

We terminated Ms. Nakpil’s services in April of 2008 when we discovered acts of misappropriation of funds that led to our immediate loss of trust and confidence in her. Out of spite, she attempted to register our name (Rivermaya) under her own at the Intellectual Property Office without our knowledge and consent. To protect our rights over the mark “Rivermaya”, we filed a corresponding Opposition to her Application but in August of this year, this was dismissed WITHOUT PREJUDICE by the IPO on grounds of pure technicality. As the dismissal was WITHOUT PREJUDICE, we have RE-FILED our Opposition to comply with the technical rules thereon.

Originally created and chosen by founding band members Mark Escueta, Bamboo Mañalac, Perfecto de Castro, Rico Blanco & Nathan Azarcon in 1994, the name Rivermaya has been OURS for the past 15 years. We have been actively using the name Rivermaya for the past 15 years, surviving several changes in line-up, and proof of such is well documented in all Rivermaya’s songs and albums, music videos, TV and Radio guestings, countless concerts and performances here and abroad, and countless interviews on print, radio, TV and the Internet. The fact that we are Rivermaya has also been publicly known for the past 15 years. Lizza G. Nakpil is simply a disgruntled former-agent/manager out to destroy Rivermaya’s career and the livelihood of Rivermaya’s current members Mark Escueta, Mike Elgar, Jayson Fernandez & Japs Sergio.

To STOP Lizza G. Nakpil from continuing to FALSELY CLAIM REGISTERED OWNERSHIP of “Rivermaya”, and from causing even greater damage to Rivermaya, we have filed a Complaint for damages with an application for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) last October 20, 2009. Upon the filing of our Complaint, the Regional Trial Court immediately issued a 72-Hour TRO against Lizza G. Nakpil on 21 October 2009 and, on 24 October2009, this TRO was extended to a 20-Day TRO. Under the TRO, Ms. Nakpil and all persons acting for and in her behalf are ordered to cease and desist from (1) claiming that she is the registered owner of the mark “Rivermaya” unless declared as such in a final judgment; (2) threatening Rivermaya’s producers, sponsors, promoters with legal suits in case they deal with Rivermaya or utilize the mark “Rivermaya” without her authorization; and (3) inducing Rivermaya’s contractual partners to violate their contractual obligations.

Should you come to know if Lizza G.
